Kraft in a pot, made correctly. Extra butter, black pepper, and no apologies.
At a Glance
Ingredients
- Kraft mac and cheese or Annie's 1 box
- salted butter (more than the box says) 2 tbsp
- whole milk splash
- freshly ground black pepper generous
- hot sauce, extra shredded cheese, breadcrumbs optional
Method
-
Cook
Boil the pasta from the 1 box of mac and cheese according to the package instructions. Drain the pasta, but leave about a tablespoon of the starchy cooking water in the pot to help the sauce bind.
-
Make it better
Return the pot to very low heat. Add 2 tablespoons of salted butter (more than the box recommends), the cheese powder, and just a small splash of whole milk. Stir vigorously until the butter and powder melt into a glossy sauce that coats every noodle. Finish with a very generous grinding of black pepper to cut the richness.
Slop Notes
The secret is extra butter and less milk than the box says. Top with butter toasted breadcrumbs if you want to feel fancy.
